Our School Pepeha Walk- Maungaroa

Today we all went to Maungaroa. We drove to the base at Lloyd George Road. We walked up to the first look out point. Mrs Saunders pointed out some of the landmarks and told us some stories. We walked on up to the modern lighthouse at the top. We couldn't quite see the old lighthouse ruins at the end of Tuahine point. The views were spectacularly stunning. The weather conditions were perfect.
A huge thankyou to our wonderful parent helpers who provided transport and helped us on the walk.
I was so proud of Room 8 today. They all did a great job walking up that steep hill.

We start on our next adventure
Morning tea before we set off.

Morning tea in the shade.

The view starts to unfold...

The first look out point.

We listen to Mrs Saunders point out some features of the landscape around us.

The view over Poverty Bay and Tuamotu Island.
We learnt that there used to be two islands but one was blown up
and removed to create a channel for shipping.

The lighthouse that is used today.

Wainui Beach stretches out below us. We can see for miles.

Looking back over the city.

Young Nick's Head and Poverty Bay.

Rori and his buddy Joel.

Back at school, Quincee and Rori paint a picture of Maungaroa.

Oska, Te Atawhai, Ella, Alice and Millie begin their paintings.

A great way to finish a wonderful day.
