Transition to School Information

Mrs Janna Broad and Mrs Jodie Saunders are the New Entrant teachers in Room 9, also known as Ngā Ngaru Learning Hub. They run a collaborative teaching space where Learning through Play teaching strategies are used each day.

 Guidelines for starting school

School Readiness 
Starting school can seem an age away for you and your family. It is amazing how quickly the time can creep up on us. We start the transition process at least a term before the children are due to start school. If you are considering Wainui Beach School, please contact the school as early as possible to register interest and get your name into our system. This helps us with our staff and class numbers planning. We hold new parent meetings at the beginning of each term, for the parents of the children due to start school the following term. You will only be invited to these if you have registered and we have your contact details.   Here is a link to some additional guidelines and things you can be doing now to help prepare your child for school. 
School Readiness Tips

Learning through Play - 
Much of our morning is spent doing Play Based learning. Children can choose which activity they may like to explore. The teacher withdraws small teaching groups for targeted teaching sessions. The children are free to return to the play once their workshop session with the teacher has finished. The teacher will also spend time observing the play and interactions between the children and doing some social, emotional and academic coaching while the children are working.
