Footnote Dance Workshops

We were extremely fortunate to have this amazing dance group with us for 2 days last week while they were on their National Tour. They took each class for a 40 minute dance workshop and then performed part of their show for the whole school. One of their dancers Lana Phillips is a past pupil of Wainui Beach School. The children loved it.

Each dancer worked with a small group.

Their dancer helped them create their own dance to tell a story.

Lana used to attend Wainui Beach School.
Here she is teaching Cory, Momo, Ella and Mia.

Each group performed their dance back to the class.

They used their bodies and movement to tell a story.

This group practised balancing in their dance.

They used mime and expression to act out their story.

Look how much fun we had as we performed our routines!

This group danced about surfing and swimming in the sea.

This group made an aeroplane in their dance.

Alice practices her stretching as she dances.

The children were telling the dance group about their adventures walking our school landmarks from last week. This became the inspiration for the choreography that they taught the class. The children acted out some of the things they saw and felt as they walked up Tsunami Hill, Maungaroa and the Hamanatua Stream.
