Fun at Lunch time

We are allowed to bring our skateboards, scooters, roller blades and rip sticks to school. We can ride them at lunch time. Our tamariki have heaps of fun.

Mahanga balances on his skateboard.

Yummy Watermelon.

We ate some delicious, sweet and juicy watermelon today. We did a cut up story about it. Here is what we did.

Thing we like.

We are learning how to read and write the word like. We drew pictures of some things that we like to do. Look at what we like to do.

Discovery at the Beach

It was such a beautiful day today at Wainui Beach, so we decided to make the most of it and spend our Discovery Time down on the beach.
The whole junior syndicate went down together. We got to hang out with our friends from other classes.

Friday Discovery Time

Every Friday we join with Miss Miller and our friends in Room 7 for Discovery Time. This is where we get to choose our own activities to do. While we are playing and discovering, we learn about and practise the Key Competencies and Values that Wainui Beach School believes in.

The Key Competencies are:

  • Managing Self
  • Participating and Contributing
  • Thinking
  • Relating to Others
  • Using Symbols, Signs and Text

Our Values are:   Respect and Responsibility

Our first Discovery Session was lots of fun. Check out what we did.

Neko and Stormur from Room 7 have a go at skipping.

Reef flies through the air.

Orlaith, Kobi and Taimana work together to create their "Block Portal."

These boys organised and managed themselves into teams.
They played a great game of soccer together.

The sandpit is always a popular choice.

So are the magnets.

Bridget, Mia and Josephine  draw with pastels.

The painting table is always popular too.

Our smiley face emoji art

Today we made these cute emoji-smiley face pictures. Mrs Broad wanted to see how we could use scissors, colour in , use a gluestick and follow a pattern to put our faces together.
We all did a great job.
We are learning that "mistakes are our friends," and that we can learn from them.
We are learning to have a go, even if we are not sure.
We are learning to keep trying, even if we are finding it really tricky.
Check out how cute and colourful our pictures all look!

Swimming Time

What a great way to end a hot and busy day of new learning.
We have been concentrating so hard in Room 9. We love cooling off in the pool!
We are learning to manage ourselves and our belongings as we get ready to go swimming,
and as we get changed after our swim.

Welcome to Room 9 2016

Welcome to the new entrant class of 2016. We start our year of tomorrow on Tuesday 2nd of February. We will be officially welcomed to Wainui Beach School with a powhiri in the school hall.

During the summer holidays I moved classrooms from Room 8 to Room 9.  I will try to post regularly to share our learning and activities with you. Feel free to share this blog with extended whanau. Last year many of our children had family overseas who loved seeing what their child was learning about at school. It is a great way to keep in touch.

Let the Room 9 adventures begin!
