Craft Fair Creativeness

A big thank you to all the parents who came along last week to help us get started with our craft fair efforts.  The kids had heaps of fun printing with our stencils and  blowing bubbles to make wrapping paper.  Doesn't the paper look awesome!?  It's a big job and we couldn't do it without parent help!  We feel very grateful.  Go team Ngā Ngaru!!

Happy Father's Day

We wrote stories in our writing books about our Dad's and other special people in our lives.  Koka Janna and Koka Jodie photocopied them and we glued them into cards for Father's Day.  The class were very proud of them and couldn't wait to give them their special cards on Sunday. We hope you all had a lovely day and enjoyed reading your child's special thoughts about their whanau.  You may want to check their book bags if you have not seen it yet.

Here are few of our tamariki getting their cards ready to take home.

Rubbish Report Number 1

As you know we are an Enviroschool at Wainui Beach School.  We learn about sustainable practises and how we are responsible for the care of our environment.  This year the children of Ngā Ngaru have taken on the responsibility for overseeing the rubbish situation at school.  We are going to try to do regular reports for the rest of the school on how our rubbish is looking and talk about what we can do to reduce rubbish at school.  Here's our first rubbish report that we did last week for all classes to look at.

Leave a comment below after you have watched our video and tell us about something you do at home to reduce rubbish.

Number Collections

Maths is one of our favourite times of the day.  One of the things the children like to do is make 'Number Collections.'  They choose a number and then see how many ways they can show or make that number using our maths equipment. When they have finished their collections, they like to share their thinking with a buddy, then share it with Koka Jodie and I.  We take a photo of them and their mahi before we pack up at the end of the session.  The children are getting really quick at instantly recognising the number sets in different ways without having to count them out. This is called subitizing.

Busy Little Beavers

We are busy beavers in Ngā Ngaru in our play and in our mahi.  We have been talking about the Key Competency of Self Management.  We know that managing ourselves means that we can make good choices for ourselves and do the right thing even when the teacher is not there.  Look at the way we are managing ourselves in our mahi and in our play.
