Retro Tech Fun

Here are some pictures from the fun time we had at the museum looking at retro technology.
There was a lot to see and do.  It's interesting just how much things have changed!

Nga Ngaru, you were all awesome!  You showed respect and responsibility on our trip and you all got stuck in to try new things.  It wasn't easy to write with the quill and ink
but you all persevered and ...you did it!  Tu meke!

Kiwiana at the Museum

We had awesome fun at the museum talking about kiwiana and making our very own beeswax honey wrap!

First we went on a treasure hunt around the museum to find kiwiana things.  We found lots of things, including...a tomato sauce bottle shaped like a tomato, some tikis, some native birds, a jandal, a poi, an L&P bottle, a fern, a maori carving....all SORTS of things! It was fun sharing what we found and putting them on the kiwiana table.

Next we had a go at grating some beeswax for our wraps.  This is not as easy as it looks and we had to persevere.  It was fantastic seeing all of the tamariki trying hard to get as much bees wax as they could and working together.

We decorated our wrap fabric with kiwiana stencils and watched as Koka Julie showed us how to put the wax on.  She is going to put the wax on all our wraps and drop them off to school for us on Friday.  We are super excited to show you our wraps when they arrive.

Ka mau te wehi Room 9!  You were fantastic at the museum!

Tena Koe - Hello to One

Here we are at assembly singing our greetings song. Koka Terri has been teaching the school some Te Reo during our school assembly. This part of assembly is called "It's cool to korero."
We are learning that if we want to say hello to one person we say Tena Koe. If we are saying hello to to 2 people we would say Tena Korua. If we are saying hello to lots of people we say Tena koutou.
We also learned that Ata marie means good morning and Ka kite means goodbye. Tu Meke means too much! Room 9 practised this and we shared our learning back with the whole school the next week.  Look how proud we are to get up on stage by ourselves and sing our waiata.
Tu meke Room 9.

We won the It's cool to korero class prize for the week - Tu meke Tiki. We got to keep him in the class for the whole week.

Greedy Cat

Greedy Cat by Joy Cowley is one of our favourite shared book stories. We made our own Greedy Cats and thought about the kinds of foods we thought he might like to steal. We all love our Greedy Cats.

Here we are making our Greedy Cats

Oh the Places You'll Go

We listened to Dr Seuss's story Oh the Places You'll Go. We made our own hot air balloon art that shows the beginning of our school journey at Wainui Beach School. Look closely at the pictures to see us waving in our hot air balloons.
