The Last Day of Term 3

We joined with all the other "Milk in Schools," schools for the National Big Slurp!! We drank our milk as a whole school to celebrate the anchor Milk in Schools programme.

We brought our wheels for Wheels Day during Discovery.

Brooklyn Boyd brought a cake into share because it was his 5th Birthday.
Happy Birthday Brooklyn!

We finished of the term with the Term achievers assembly in the hall.

Congratulations to Rori, Te Atawhai and Mia who were this terms award winners in Room 8.

Our Calendar Art work

Every year Wainui Beach School gives the children the opportunity to create a piece of art that can be turned into a keepsake. This is also a fundraising opportunity for our school. We can order calendars, cards, diaries, and mouse pads which feature the children's art.  This year Room 8 painted flowers using watercolour paints and pastel for detail. Here are the children with the art that they created.

The Jack Flash Show

Yesterday our school had the NZ Playhouse theatre company perform to us. The show was called Jack Flash. It used the traditional story Jack and the Beanstalk to educate us about recycling and being careful with our rubbish. It was a very entertaining show with a great message.
The giant was not taking care of his environment and was throwing his rubbish anywhere. It was falling down from the clouds and landing on the kingdom below. Jack Flash was blamed for making the mess. He decided to go on an adventure and show the giant the error of his ways!

Egg Technology Challenge

Today the whole school got together to take part in a technology challenge. We were put into teams of 4. Two Nui students were in a group with two Wai students. Each group was given a plastic bag, a length of string, a roll of masking tape, several sheets of A4 paper and an egg. The challenge was to design a way for the egg to be protected so that it would be intact when it was dropped from a height.
We had heaps of fun!
Rori and Ella worked with Taj and Max from Room 4

Sonny & William from Room 2 worked with Millie and Oska.

Jamie and Felix from Room 4 help Cash and Te Atawhai.

Stormur listens to Luke and Troy

Carter and Shai work with Ivy and Quincee.

Pila and Zoe from Room 3 worked with Alice and Josephine.

Momo and Cornelia helped Isabella and Asia from Room 3 design their egg protection device.

Bramm and Mia worked hard with their buddies.

Cash, Felix, Te Atawhai and Jamie show off their finished creation.

This was when the fun really began!

Mrs Andrew climbed up a tall ladder to get some extra height!!!

She hurled our eggs down to the concrete below!

Some eggs floated down....

And others smashed!!! Here we are checking whether our eggs had survived or not!!

After many times being dropped, this teams egg was the sole survivor!
Fantastic Asia, Isabella, Momo and Cornelia! Their egg was wrapped and then cushioned inside a plastic bag that had been blown up. They also made a parachute out of paper to slow their plastic pillow down as it fell to the ground.
We had lots of fun during the Technology Challenge!

Our Spring Blossom Art and Stories

Mrs Saunders did some awesome Spring Blossom art when she taught Room 8.
We painted our backgrounds using watercolour paints. We blew indian ink through straws to create our tree trunk and branch silhouettes.
The final step was to sponge pink paint on to our trees to create our spring blossom.
Last week we wrote some stories to go with our art work. A selection of these have been chosen to enter in the A & P Spring show in October.
