Game time with Room 9

On Friday afternoon, we joined up with Room 9, the other New Entrant class.
We played duck, duck goose. It was heaps of fun getting to know our friends next door.

Wheels Day Discovery Week 10

We brought our wheels to school for Discovery on Friday. It was a beautiful day and great to be outside in the fresh air after a cold, wet week stuck inside. We had fun zooming around with our friends on our bikes and scooters.
Mia was proud to show me how fast she could zoom!

Mia was a kind friend and gave Millie a turn with her scooter.

Ivy and Mia showing us their great balance!

Matariki Art and Stories

We read the legend of Matariki. We learnt about the 7 sisters and how they came to be a constellation of Stars in the night sky. We talked about the Matariki Celebrations and the Maori New Year.
We painted our own night skies. We made some golden stars and glued them onto our night sky paintings.  We wrote stories about our paintings and published them. They look fantastic.
Here we are hard at work painting our stars.

Friday 19th June: Buddy Time with Room 1 on the Beach

We spent Friday afternoon down on the beach with our buddy class Room 1. We created and made things in the sand with our buddies. It was a great way to finish off a wonderful and busy week. We had heaps of fun with our buddies.
Mia and her buddy Minnie made this cool design in the sand.

Ivy and her buddy Amelia made this circular shaped sand castle.

Millie and her buddy Nina made a sea horse in the sand.

Ahi and his buddy Yula built this amazing structure
out of driftwood sticks.

Te Atawhai and River from Room 9 are starting their design with
Amalee, Abby and Charlize from Room 1 helping!

Look at me!

On Monday Mrs Saunders taught us. We are learning about the word look. We went out on to the playground and Mrs Saunders took photos of us. We did some cut up sentences with "Look at me." Then we added on a sentence to describe what we were doing. We painted a picture to match our photos. We can read our sentences. We love our awesome work. Thanks Mrs Saunders!

Our Self Portraits and I can stories ...

We learned how to draw our faces. We did this by looking at ourselves in the mirror.
We talked about the shapes we could see. We talked about taking up all the space on the page.
We used pencil to draw the outline of our faces. Once we had drawn ourselves, we used watercolour tablet paints to paint our pictures.
The last step was to use pastels to draw in details like our eyelashes and patterns on our clothes.
We learned that we can add different layers and colours to build up our paintings.

Here they are up in our classroom.

We did some work with Mrs Arthur to practise using the words I can.
We drew picture of some of the fun and clever things we can do.
We told Mrs Arthur our stories and she published them for us.
Here they are hanging up in our room.

Mrs Broad put our name art posters up on the wall. We can't wait to see the new names go up as our class grows!

Sight Word Bingo

We are having fun learning our first 24 sight words in Room 8. This morning we played Bingo.
Mrs Broad called out a word and we had to find it quickly. Once we had found the word we placed a counter on it. We all helped each other when we got stuck. We are getting so quick at finding words we know. There is a slideshow of these words in the Resources to Support Learning part of this Blog. Once we master these words we will move onto our red level word cards.
